Scavenger Order of Replacement Parts

To maintain optimum readiness and performance of the Scavenger, and to ensure economic performance, the recommended sequence for wear parts replacement should be followed:

The least expensive and most easily replaced wear part are the rotor cutters. The purpose of the cutters is to cut any strings, wired, plastic or materials that may enter the gap or clearance between the Rotor and Shroud Ring as shown below. If the cutters become dull these contaminates may wrap around the cutter and wear the Shroud Ring surface. If cutter wear is excessive, the cutter mounting surface on the rotor may become worn as well. It is recommended that the cutters be examined monthly through the inspection hatch on the side of the Scavenger vat. Proper replacement of the cutters will minimize the wear on the Shroud Ring and Rotor. Rotor Shims are used to set the clearance between the cutters and Shroud Ring surface to minimize the possibility of these contaminates from entering the gap clearance. This clearance is maintained by removing Rotor Shims to maintain a clearance between 0.5MM and 1.5MM.

The Shroud Ring, is the next least expensive wear part, which should be replaced when the cutter clearance described above can not be maintained, even with a new set of cutters installed.

The Rotor should be the last component which would be replaced in the stock flow compartment of the Scavenger. The areas of Rotor wear to be examined are the pumping vanes on the back (accept side) of the Rotor, which when worn may reduce pumping capacity. The vanes on the inlet side of the Rotor will also wear, which is caused by the debris and contaminants from the pulper, accumulated during the cycle of the Scavenger. This wear can be minimized by evaluating the cycle time between the recirculation mode and dump cycle. If the vat accumulates too much debris between dump times,  the debris may increase wear of the Rotor. As mentioned above, if the cutters are not replaced when worn, it is possible that the mounting surface wear on the leading edge of the Rotor will wear, eventually removing the surface where the cutters mount. If using a Segmented Rotor, the Segments can be replaced.  Bofus Inc can also rebuild the Rotor Hub/Platform to specification to eliminate total rotor replacement.
